Winlink is a global network of amateur radio operators who use radio communications to exchange email messages with each other and with stations on the internet. It provides a means for licensed amateur radio operators to send and receive email messages from locations where internet access is not available or is unreliable, such as remote areas, maritime environments, or during emergencies when traditional communication infrastructure may be disrupted.

Winlink operates using a variety of radio frequencies and modulation modes, including HF (High Frequency), VHF (Very High Frequency), and UHF (Ultra High Frequency). Messages are typically sent using specialized software such as Winlink Express and equipment capable of interfacing with radio transceivers.

The network is particularly valuable for emergency communications, allowing amateur radio operators to provide vital information and assistance during disasters when other communication channels may be unavailable. It's also used for routine communications, such as relaying weather reports, coordinating events, or simply maintaining contact between amateur radio enthusiasts around the world.
